Cllr Peter McDonald has said:
“After several complaints from ramblers using the Easy Trail, (from New Inns Lane to the Visitors Centre) who had been confronted by horses’ canter along the trail putting their safety at risk.
Ramblers using the hills have priority over horse riders and to ensure people’s lives are not being put in danger, signs are now to be erected instructing horse riders to dismount.
The Easy Trail was developed some twenty years ago to enable the less able and those with buggies and wheelchairs to get to the Visitor Centre with ease.
Allowing horses to canter along this trail is counter to the welfare and safety of its users and I am pleased the County Council are taking such action.”
