Bromsgrove Labour Youth’s first public meeting in Sanders Park was a great success. It gave the opportunity for young members and non-members to informally come together and plan for future campaigns, activities and the direction of the youth group in Bromsgrove.

This was followed by a political discussion on the election results and contemporary issues affecting local residents and how we can contribute to the wider movement.

Members highlighted a number of key issues that they would like to campaign on and organize for:

NHS
LGBT & Anti-racism
The Environment
Fighting Austerity

Members recognised that Labour is on an election footing and, therefore, surmised that the youth group should be active and campaigning over the summer months.

Amongst some of the plans, the youth group intends to raise funds for campaign materials, hold street stalls and reach out to community groups and local schools. The group also decided to pursue an active agenda of recruitment, and not retention of young members.

The meeting concluded with present members agreeing to conduct fortnightly gatherings and discussions on topical issues, as well as holding socials and liaising with the wider Constituency Labour Party (CLP) for fundraising and campaigning opportunities, as well as fighting for better representation of young members in CLP business.

Another Labour youth group political discussion and gathering will be held on the afternoon of Saturday 29th of July. Topic, time and location to be confirmed via Mailchimp. Members and non-members are welcome. Ages 14 – 26.
