Labour Councillors were shocked and horrified at the lack of measures put in place by Bromsgrove Council to ensure social distancing regarding the opening of the market stalls.

Councillors were told that social distancing would be orgainised by the Council, but that certainly did not take place as there was little or no social distancing  around the market stalls. The Council in its failure to ensure social distancing is putting both the traders and customers at risk and should stop the market trading until social distancing measures are in place.

In addition, encouraging people back in the high street is irresponsible while the toilets at the bus station are closed. While the traders have access to the toilet the general public have nowhere to go. Just where are they expected to go? The Council’s approach to the pandemic is not just cavalier but one of incompetence.

The group leader, Cllr Peter McDonald has asked the Chief Executive to revisit the whole situation and make it safe for shoppers and that the public toilets are open
