Comments from Cllr Peter McDonald:
“Traffic outside our schools at opening and closing times is chaotic. Many motorists parking on yellow lines, zig zags and blocking off pavements, putting the safety of children at risk. It’s a miracle that we have not had a child seriously injured.
The sure way of making motorists park in a safe and orderly fashion around our schools is to ensure Traffic Enforcement Officers regularly patrol our schools. We all know that when an Enforcement Officer appears motorists act sensibly, keeping to traffic regulations and in doing so not putting children at risk.
Something positive needs to be done before a child gets seriously injured. Therefore, to improve the safety of children outside our schools, I will be calling upon the Council at its next meeting to ensure that in future Traffic Enforcement Officers are scheduled to patrol our schools on a regular basis.”
